The Project
In 2024, Optical Media was commissioned by Bromley Council to create a film centred around the rehearsals and performance of "Space and Time" a music piece composed by internationally renowned music director Jeremy Jackman, inspired by the historic Lesnes Abbey Woods. This project, in collaboration with Bexley Music, aimed to capture not just the musical journey but also the profound connection between the composition and its muse.
Our objective was to create a film that highlighted the unique ecology and historical significance of Lesnes Abbey Wood and the talent of those within Bexley Music performing the piece.
It was to be showcased on the websites and social media platforms of Lesnes Abbey and Bexley Music as a promotional tool to attract new visitors and enhance their profiles both locally and regionally, while appealing to the two distinct audiences of both clients.

The Solution
The production process involved planning and coordination to capture the essence of the locations and the music. By integrating footage of the natural and historical sites with the rehearsals and performance, we sought to create a film that was not only visually captivating but also resonated emotionally.
We worked in pre -production to develop a shot list considering all of the deliverables and locations available, put together a throughout production schedule and planned media release forms for all those captured on camera.
During production we shot on location over two days with 4K Sony Cameras, gimbal and cinematic lenses, with three crew on-site to capture Lesnes Abbey and the performance at Blackheath Halls. Our stabilised camera system allowed the team to capture multiple diverse shots quickly, without obtrusive tripods slowing production. The edit built up the story of children performing the piece in conjunction with an internationally renowned musical director, while telling the story of the piece coming together and its culmination- the performance
